Vladimir Dubossarsky & Alexander Vinogradov are known for their large scale paintings of pop-culture fantasy worlds referencing the state-sanctioned Soviet style of Socialist Realism. In a process similar to collage they borrow the fantastical ideals of the mass media: they adopt the bright blue skies and pristine smiling faces of escapist magazine spreads and combine them into large-scale compositions inhabited by Hollywood stars, perfect birthday cakes, family picnics in impossibly pastoral scenes or dazzlingly unreal snow storms over pristine city-scapes.  Still working with the traditions of the Soviet picture-plane, they play with scale to create new narratives and perspectives in paintings that become immaculately resolved utopian worlds of their own.
